Hello everyone. I am new here and trying to post using my computers translater which works partially. I have recently been updated to R1a1a1. I have family stories of scotland and ireland. This I cannot confirm since it is just stories. The furthest known ancestor I have have is my ggrandfather Thomas Bell in arkansas USA 1850?. He has his parents listed in Tennessee USA 1820's last name Bell also. This is as far as I can go on paper. I had 68 markers done on FTDNA and some snp's checked. With what little info I have, can anyone point me in any direction? My very distant ysearch matches are all over europe, brit isles, scandanavia. Mostly in europe. Any ideas of other snp's I should test for? Any ideas of my family origin?
Again thank you!

Dear Bellworx,

Welcome here. First, we should take a good look at your 68-marker haplotype, in order to get an idea what branch of R1a1a1 haplogroup it belongs to. It would largely shape the next question, what deep clade you should explore. What is your YSearch number? Or whatever database you put it in? If you do not mind, you can paste it right here. Or send one of us an e-mail with your full-size haplotype.

I posted the information above. I am not sure if I am responding correctly as I am translating the page to english. Sorry for any confusion!!

I tested at FTDNA. My Ysearch is RSXGW. My haplogroup was recently changed to R1a1a1. My signature below should show what I have had tested so far.

Thank you!!

Sorry Bellworx, I have missed your YSearch index at the bottom of the message. Will take a look.

Dear bellworx, it is very likely that your haplotype belongs to the Western Eurasian Branch-2, which is marked by blue pins on this map. This branch of R1a1a1 is extremely rare among people of the Scandinavian descent, to which the big part of British bearers of R1a1 belongs. It is very typical for Eastern Slavs (Russians, Belorussians, Ukrainians) and Lithuanians, as well as Poles, Slovaks and Hungarians with the roots in Carpathian Mountains. I believe you can trace your ancestors in some of those areas.

A specific SNP for this branch is not defined yet. However, there is a chance that the private SNP L458 of one of our participants (Boromir) can be extended to the whole branch. There are not enough data, because this SNP became avialable quite recently. You can order it now from FTDNA as usual.

Very good, the case is settled, at least as a preliminary version. I would also suggest to try L458. I have ordered it myself a couple of days back.

I understand further testing is required. Does this rule out the possibility that my ypaternal line passed through the british isles? Thank you for all of your responses. I greatly appreciate any help and information you give me. Thank you!!!
